CLAN - CodeThe "Comprehensive Linux Archive Network" CodebaseThe Comprehensive Linux Archive Network (or CLAN for short) aims to be for the Linux kernel what CPAN is for Perl and the Debian Pool and Apt is for Debian. I.e: a framework for downloading, compiling, installing and upgrading kernel modules and entire kernels. CLAN is at the moment mostly ideaware and planningware that is documented by some whitepapers and specifications. (I don't mind it being called vapourware). The Linux::Kernel::Module::Builder Perl Module is functional but there is still a lot that needs to be done for it was well. The whitepaper describes some of the issues that brought the idea to life. CLAN will be usable right from the start, and will accomulate more and more functionality as times goes by. It will be based on the models provided by CPAN, the Debian Pool, Gentoo and similar efforts, while trying to improve upon them when possible, and translating them to the kernel specific needs. |
