I am willing to help, as much as I can and would like to in the future.

Details:
These features would be options...
The basic feature that would facilitate recording the players thoughts is a
simple extension to the initial impetus for FreeCell Pro (recording moves),
namely the ability to record comments as well as moves to the log file.
I implemented a version in VB where I simply put a small textbox (64 chars
wide & scrollable) at the bottom of the screen. Since you now parse & act
on keystrokes like u for undo & r for redo, you might use a ";"
(semi-colon) to start a comment, thus not acting on keystrokes only saving
them to the log file, and then end comment mode by either another ":" or a
CR/LF. The ending ";" would enable multi-line comments & allow these
"wordy" log files to be replayed.
A 2nd feature would be at the start of a game to write the card layout to
the log file, using your current "Custom Game" format, so a post processor
could make different types of cognitive analysis. This could be inclosed by
";"'s to prevent interference with current features such as reloading. BTW
I like the current "Custom Game" format, namely left to right top to
bottom, as it is very easy to read. The card layout is necessary to
translate from
83 to 4K -> 5C.
These 2 features would provide the basics so many players all over the
world could start to record their thoughts as they play. These could then
be collected, shared etc. The thoughts or strategies of experts could offer
new ideas to beginners.
Also, since the log file is plain text, with a simple format, different
people could write different analysis in what ever language they prefer,
even programmable editors.
Indeed the ability in Freecell Pro to select one's own editor instead of
Notepad would be a great help & convenience for all, since the selection of
a personal editor is often guarded with a religious like fervor. I've been
using NoteTab Pro for years since I like to keep multiple files open, and
occasionally use the split window to inspect 2 files at once for
differences. It also has some handy statistical tools built in.
There are many other advanced features which could be added at a later time
but these are the ones I add to any game I "instrument" for cognitive analysis.
1 such advanced feature, which allows for far more detailed cognitive
analysis, is the logging of all undo's & redo's as these reflect the
planning vs trial & error strategies of individuals...
A really advanced feature would be the time stamping of commands. This
enables an almost microscopic analysis of the individuals brain wiring!
