I have played quite a bit of freecell over the years, though not
lately. One day I looked at the help for some unknown reason, and
saw "It is believed but not proven that all games are solvable."
Shortly thereafter, I hit a game that was really hard, and it
occurred to me to try to build a game that was not solvable; which
seemed pretty easy. My question was, "why does microsoft STILL have
that claim in their help, after many years of distributing their
version of freecell?"
I happened across a reference to your group (on a UNICEF website for
free software), and thought---there are the people who can answer my
question!! Am I wrong or right in believing that you can prove that
there are unsolvable games (by counter-example); and if I'm right,
why does Microsoft still have that claim in their freecell? No one
has bothered to tell them, or they haven't bothered to update the
help?
Thank you (one of you) for bothering to answer this question, which
has been bothering me for years!!
Best Regards,
Sally Hicks
