FWIW:
I'm running Windows 98 and my Cards.dll file has a modified date of 1998. I
believe that it's the original version of the file.
I temporarily renamed the Cards.dll file that came with FcPro to remove any
possibility of conflict.
MS FreeCell still loads with a garbage title bar and shows an hourglass
symbol whenever I move the mouse over the tableau. I'm unable to move cards
using the mouse.
I've experienced this problem since upgrading to IE 6. I've *heard* that
FreeCell's problems are related to an incompatibility with Microsoft's
upgraded use of stacks, but Microsoft seems to only be pointing fingers
elsewhere. Microsoft does mention a problem with Win32s and FreeCell, but I
believe that it's in reference to Windows 3.11.
Also, if the problem was in Cards.dll, then I would expect to experience
problems in MS Solitaire. That's not the case. It works the same as it did
when I installed Windows 98.

Subject: DLL Hell in Microsoft Freecell
Date: Sat, 21 May 2005 11:05:12 +0300
Hi all!
Attached is a message from Shachar Shemesh, one of the developers of Wine
(
http://winehq.com/), a Windows compatibility layer for UNIXes. In this
message he explains why Microsoft Freecell may suffer from DLL Hell, and
what
can be done about it.
I talked to Shachar and he said that the entire content of his message is
released under the public domain.
Mike Keller: if you read this, you may wish to quote it in the Freecell FAQ.
Regards,
Shlomi Fish

Tcl is LISP on drugs. Using strings instead of S-expressions for closures
is Evil with one of those gigantic E's you can find at the beginning of
paragraphs.
