I disagree with the following posting by Danny Jones. His news is not a "useless
bit of trivia." Given that the Freecell literature is full of how the first 32000 deals
were solved by hand over a period of years, and that the state of the art in all of the
known freecell solver programs certainly could not have produced this finding,
his report is monumental. I hope to see mention made in some of the appropriate
places when I'm next able to access the web.

Subject: 1M 8x4 MS FreeCell Deals' Upper Move Limit
Here's a useless bit of trivia for those who may have wondered at one
time or another about how many moves it takes to solve an 8x4 deal.
Well, excluding unsolvable deals (of course), every one of the first
1M 8x4 MS FreeCell deals can be solved in 54-moves or less using
Horne's automove and supermoves.
In addition, there are at most 16 deals that can't be solved in
50-moves or less.
Now you can stop wondering.
Have a nice day!
PS: Although I don't know for sure, it's my belief that most deals
can be solved in 40 moves or less.
