During recent discussions on my original message (included), Gary
Campbell suggested that counting the WKRaymond automoves was (currently)
the only reasonable way to compare a solution to one using Horne
automoves only. That bumped the move count for deal #606313 from 17
moves to the 27 moves.
I recently altered my solver to use Horne automoves, but to increase the
priority on traditional moves that corresponded to WKRaymond automoves.
When I ran this version of my solver on the first 1,000,000 deals, the
timing results were comparable to when I was using the WKRaymond
automoves.
I then ran the (upgraded) recursive search version of my solver to
locate a short solution. The result is longer than the original 17 moves
when the WKRaymond automoves weren't counted, but it's shorter than the
27 moves when the WKRaymond automoves are counted.
So, I'm sticking with the current Horne version of my solver.
