If you wondered about the iteration and backup counts, below, you were pretty observant! I apparently can't be trusted to do a simple hex conversion. The iteration count should be 748. This is the number of layouts generated. Layouts resulting from (Horne) automoves are not counted. A single backup includes all the moves necessary to return to the first untried alternative. I wondered how the iteration count could get so high with only 300 backups. I misread the hex dump after the program had finished. -Gary
